Basement Waterproofing

Basement waterproofing is essential to your basement’s health here in the humid state of New Jersey. Scardino Basement Solutions has tackled major water problems for over a decade and we bring this experience to your home to help you get rid of it. Proper New Jersey basement waterproofing is your frontline of a healthy home.

Basement waterproofing allows you to control the overall humidity level of your basement and protects it from high humidity and water seepage.

An increased level of moisture in your home can have serious consequences. It can lead to moldy and musty odors throughout the house. It can foster mold growth which can ruin your home’s air quality and cause serious health problems. Wet basements can also cause structural damage which costs you even more time and money to fix later.

Crawl Space Repair

Scardino Basement Solutions are experts at crawl space encapsulation and crawl space waterproofing. We’ve installed countless crawl space waterproofing systems over the years. Let us crawl down there and take a look, and we’ll recommend the solution we think is right for your crawl space and a FREE ESTIMATE. Every crawl space is different and solutions vary accordingly.

We offer a two-pronged attack against crawl space moisture. The key is to control the humidity level and direct any water that enters out of this key area of your house. The most common solution is a sump pump install, a dehumidifier and a CrawlShield™ vapor barrier.

Sump Pump Systems

Why does Scaldino Basement Solutions stand out from other sump pump installation companies in New Jersey? It’s because of our long years of experience and commitment to quality.

We recommend the GrateSump™'s PHCC Pro Series AC pumps because of their outstanding durability, great features, and ability to run continuously 24/7, 365 days a year! They’re strong and tough and if you use one intermittently as part of a sump pump application, you can extend the life of the pump.

There are several reasons why we choose this product for our sump pump installations. One is that it comes with the Grate Sump liner, which keeps it from undermining the integrity of your foundation. It has large punched holes that allow groundwater to easily enter and to be pumped out and has a built-in pump stand that keeps dirt away from the sump pump impeller.

Basement Moisture Control

The air in your basement makes its way all over your house. Studies have shown that as much as 50% of the air you breathe in the home comes up from the basement or crawl space. This air is high in relative humidity and it can carry mold spores, allergens and musty odors as it travels.

Anywhere you have 60% or higher relative humidity, you can have mold. Mold can cause health problems, ranging from slight musty odors and cold-like symptoms, to severe asthma, breathing problems and possibly brain damage. This is a bacteria growth you don’t want in your home.

Aside from the problems it causes to residents’ health, high humidity can also cause costly structural damage. It can deteriorate your home’s building materials, leading you to pay more for repairs, remediation and demolition work.

Proper basement and crawl space moisture mitigation is essential to decreasing the health risks and structural damage related to high humidity. An easy way to control moisture is through a dehumidification system.

Mold, Dust Mites & Odors

Just because you have a basement waterproofing system, doesn't mean your basement is completely dry and free of moisture. If your basement doesn't look, feel or smell dry, it's probably not and this means mold, dust mites, and odors are most likely present.

You could be unaware that your basement is damp and acting as a breeding ground for mold, dust mites, and odor-causing damage. Condensation is usually present if outside air is warmer than indoor air, especially if it's humid outside. Subterranean level homes carry the most damage from humidity because the relative humidity of air increases by 2.2% for every degree you cool it. But, because basements are below ground, they're usually cooler, and since air flows upwards, it has the ability to escape through higher levels with new air being absorbed in the lower levels.

If the outside temperature is 80 degrees with a relative humidity of 80% and we suck this air into our basements and cool it to 68 degrees, the Relative Humidity goes up by 26.4% (12 degrees x 2.2%). But, 80% plus 26.4% is more than 100%, and we can't have more than 100%! Instead, condensation occurs as the air becomes saturated, giving up its moisture to cold basement walls, floors, water tank, pipes, and other cold entities, making your basement the perfect place for odor and mold to grow. Dust mites also love high relative humidity levels.

Outdoor Drainage

Most homes usually have downspouts, but these are quite inefficient and can actually lead to a wet or moist basement. Most downspouts dump the water from the roof right against your home’s foundation, where it can accumulate and puddle up against the home, further seeping into your basement or crawlspace. This may not be the only reason for your wet basement, but replacing your downspout with a better outdoor drainage system will greatly reduce your basement humidity and moisture issues. It’s just one part of your basement waterproofing solution.

Foundation Repair

Foundation cracks are usually caused by drying shrinkage or thermal movement. The cracks these phenomena cause are small, but no less of a threat to your home’s foundation. These tiny cracks will grow, and as they grow, they can lead to major water seepage and structural damage. They can also lead to mold growth and radon entering the home, both of which have serious health consequences.

Getting these cracks sealed and this movement stopped will save you a great deal of cost and headache down the road. Sealing cracks is the best and most cost-effective way of dealing with these issues.

Scardino Basement Solutions offers solutions for any foundation repair job in New Jersey, no matter how big or small. We offer full wall replacement or column supports on homes of any size. This includes everything from repairing cracks in your poured walls to completely new foundation and drainage system installation.

Scardino tackles foundation crack repair jobs with the newest technology. We use epoxy resin and carbon fiber not only because they seal cracks but they actually help hold your foundation together.
